Mickey Moo-Moo

The thing I love most about McKay, is that he is just like his dad. He has a lawyer mind and is always analyzing situations and coming up with creative solutions. He and dad have long talks at night about the tax implications of a flexible spending account and how to provide health insurance for all of America. He loves listening to NPR and discussing policy issues with dad. He loves learning about money, and how to invest and earn interest. He loves to save money (well, that part I think he gets from his mom) He is showing the seeds of one day being a great leader. (They still need to blossom quite a bit, but we're focusing on potential in this entry.)

He is also a wonderful student. He loves to be at school and really strives to impress his teachers and do well. Even if he is sick he still begs to go to school. He is adament about not being late, and wakes up on his own very early to ensure he is never tardy. He is very diligent about doing his homework without me having to nag much.
His greatest thing he has going for him is his love of reading. I have never met anyone who reads more than he does. Anything and everything he can get his hands on. We can't get to the library enough to fill his craving. He reads all the books that he chose from the library, then takes Lauren's books, shoves them inside his books so no one can tell he's reading fairy books, and reads all of hers. Then he gets the newspaper and reads some of it, then reads the Friend magazine, then anything interesting in the Ensign, then looks at Emma's books, then asks if it's time to go the library again yet.

Another great attribute is that he likes to keep his room clean. (Another way he's more like dad than mom). He loves stuffed animals, and collects more than any one child could possibly need. But whenever I try to whittle down the pile, he reminds me how important each one is to him. I guess it's kind of like asking me which of children I would be willing to part with. So, I don't have the heart to sneak them into the Good-Will pile yet. Some nights he even sleeps on the floor, so they can be more comfortable in his bed. Yes, they do cover his entire full size bed.

I'm grateful he is the oldest child. He sets a great example for his younger siblings and is someone I can always count on. When dad is gone, he fills in beautifully as the "man of the house".

We hoped to have a baby for a long time before McKay came along. When we found out we finally were expecting, we felt like we had been blessed with a miracle. McKay will always represent a very special answer to my heartfelt prayers.
