Labor Day

There is nothing I love more than to be out in nature with my family. So Labor Day was idealic for me.

For some time now we have wanted to canoe the Loxahatchee River. When we realized Russ had off work, and the kids were out of school, we new our day had arrived. Luckily Jon and Megan and kids, and the Ess family were able to join us. We had a blast. The scenery was so lush and beautiful, and the weather was ideal. I had imagined the kids would get a little frusterated being cooped up for so long in the canoe, but they were enjoying it as much as I was.

McKay was a true scout. He rowed most of the way, and loved launching the canoe off and jumping in.

Lauren and Emma loved spending time with their cousins and friends and took a little time behind the oars too. Lauren was a little apprehensive about the whole thing initially, but by the end of our adventure she was jumping out and climbing in, and making the most of the great outdoors.

Sierra loved being in the water. She would trudge on in while we were taking a break, she jumped overboard to have a little swim with Russ, and she leaned over and splashed for most of the 2 1/2 hour trip.

We celebrated that we made it through the journey alive by having a big cook out and pool party. We invited a few others from the ward and had a great afternoon. As if that wasn't enough, we ended by attending a birthday party for a friend who's son was turning 2. We were exhausted by the end of the day, but thought we couldn't have had more fun or spent better quality time together. McKay said as he was going to sleep, "except for the lumps in the sausage gravy at breakfast, this was the best day ever."
