Becoming the wife of Russell Doyle Shurtz was by far the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. It has filled me with so many blessings and opportunities that I could have never dreamt possible without him. Sometimes I'll see him doing something and think, "Wow, whoever gets to be married to him is sure one lucky girl", and then I remember, oh yeah, that's me. There are really too many qualities to list, but here are a few reasons why I am madly in love with him.

He never gets mad at me, even when I do really dumb things like lose important documents or forget to make a phone call that he's asked me to make 5 days in a row.
He is very selfless. He spends the majority of his time and resources finding ways to help others.
He does not dilly-dally. He's very proactive about accomplishing projects and achieving his goals. I've learned not to put ideas in his head unless I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get started.

He communicates very well. He is willing to listen and really think about how others feel and understands their side of a situation. He also states his position in a way that never offends or intentionally hurts others. He sincerely loves and cares about people, and it shows when he talks to them, even if he has to tell them hard things.

He's passionate about life. He gets excited about the little things that make life fun. He loves to turn things into a contest, or bet a milk shake on who's right, or double or nothing the next football that he throws to the kids.
He is an amazing father. He spends time teaching our children to work, mostly by his example, but also by his patient side by side training. He keeps them spellbound with his "Curious George" stories, or talks late into the night to McKay about patent infringement or compound interest. No matter how worn out he is after a long day of work, as soon as he walks in the door he starts helping out. He loves to play "sheepy sheepy come home", or have a kickball game, or praise the children about their accomplishments that day.

He is very receptive to spiritual promptings, and is very willing to follow the will of the Lord, even if it is different from his own desire.
He makes me feel beautiful, even when I am big and pregnant.

He has an amazing ability to make things better. I think that is why he is such a great leader. Any situation he's in, he looks at things that can be improved, and instead of complaining about it, he finds ways to implement programs, or give suggestions, or somehow just see that what needs to happen happens. He's done that with work, church, and our family. He's still working on me, but I'm pretty stubborn, so I may be his greatest challenge.
It's definitely not hard to come up with a list of reasons why I think he's so incredibly amazing. I haven't even started with his good looks, his amazing intellect, or his natural athletic abilities. I guess there will be other blog entries for that. I just figure the whole reason I'm keeping this blog is for family history. So when I'm long gone, I want future generations to know that I was a very happily married woman who loved my husband with all my heart and soul.
