| The most dedicated coaches of all time |
McKay participated in the First Lego League again this year. Their big "Food Factor" competition was yesterday. Their robot did not perform as well as we had all hoped. They were quickly out of the running for the robot competition. We were all crossing our fingers that maybe their skit, research presentation, or team building competition might be good enough to get them to the next round. We sat and waited for hours as all the teams finished their rounds. At the awards ceremony we were disappointed time and time again as other teams took the awards for each of the other areas. Well, I guess it was at least a good learning experience I thought, but I was a little miffed that they didn't give the team one of the "good try" awards just to recognize their hard work. Other teams had won "most inspiring" awards, where they didn't get a ticket to advance, but at least got recognized and cheered for. Then the last award they announced was the All Around Best Over All award. The Grand Prize Grand Daddy of them all. As they were describing the project I heard the announcer talk about The "Cooler" Cooler, since the team's project was designing a cooler to help keep eggs at the right temperature in salad bars I knew it was them. I cried, the coach cried, we screamed, we cheered, we were all so happy. The coaches had made custom lego figures of each of the team members, with their names on them, and the team logo on the front. McKay's has Han Solo hair. It's now one of his most prized posessions.
