Tithing Settlement

One of our Christmas traditions is our Home Teaching lesson. Since December is tithing settlement month, Bro. Burtoft always gives us a lesson about tithes and offerings. The kids know it involves a bag of candy for each of them, and they wait in great anticipation for this lesson all year long. They divy up the candy into groups of ten and then pay their tenth. Brother Burtoft reads to them from the scriptures about how we shouldn't steal from the Lord, and talks to them about how the windows of heaven will be opened and blessings will be poured out upon those who pay an honest tithe. One year Brother Burtoft even opened another bag of candy and had it rain extra blessings on the kids.

One funny addition this year is that Brother Burtoft brought the candy in a special bag that had a false bottom. He hid the candy in there and told the children we were using carrots this year for the demonstration. The kids looked all over his bag for the candy but couldn't find it anywhere. They were reseigned to eating carrots and were trying to make the most of it when he unzipped the bottom and pulled out box after box of whoppers. What a great home teacher. He inspires us in so many ways.
