Run Mama Run

Our church had a family fitness fun run this week.  Russ volunteered to run with the kids in the stroller so I could try to improve my speed.  I was running at my desired tempo, when I saw McKay had stopped and was sitting in the grass.  I stopped to see if he was O.K.  He was having a leg cramp and didn't want to over do it since he was playing in a football game right after the race.  I decided to be a "good" mom and stopped to walk with him for a while.  We walked and slowly jogged for a few minutes.  Then an amazing thing happened.  Lauren ran by us.  All of a sudden McKay's leg cramped had gone away and he was running full speed.  I realized McKay was going to be just fine and asked him if I could go ahead so I could try to meet my goal time.  I knew McKay would never let his mother beat him.  Sure enough, McKay whizzed right by me as the finish line came into sight.  I'm realizing sometimes being a "good" mom means staying by your child, and sometimes it means leading out, motivating and inspiring them , and being the best you you can be.  Chances are, they'll whiz right by you.
