Revving up the Rototiller

We've been putting off planting our garden for a while now because we could not get our rototiller to work. I mentioned this to our handy, wonderful, garden-loving home-teacher who said his lesson this month would be on "how to fix a rototiller". Sure enough he came with a straw and glass of water to teach the kids all about how a carburetor works, and by the end of the lesson it was humming away. So today we finally were able to get the 250 lbs of manure out of the back of our car, and into our 2008 winter garden. Here's hoping for a bumper crop of corn, broccoli, green beans, tomatoes, peppers and lettuce.

McKay was not very happy that it was time to work out in the yard...

until he realized this meant he could throw cow manure at his sisters.

I'm hoping all the squatting to plant seeds will help make for a quick labor next week.

Emma just can't contain her excitement about fresh tomatoes.
The mom mark the hole, Lauren plant the seed, McKay lightly cover with dirt technique worked pretty well.

I think Russ looks so manly when he uses heavy machinery.

The girls are clearly showing those weeds who is the boss. Manure anyone?
Did I mention it was raining during the majority of our garden planting experience?
There are not a lot of people in Palm Beach county who choose to use their backyard for gardening. I would love to know what our neighbors think about us hoeing away in the rain. One of them once commented, well I would plant vegetables too, but my dirt isn't as good as yours. Perhaps McKay needs to throw a little manure their way too.
