We checked a children's birthday cake book out from the library. I told her she could choose any cake she liked. She chose a pretty pink castle, all the girls helped create it. Savannah's favorite part was tinting the icing anyway she liked. It was very empowering to have control over how many drops of food coloring went in.
Daddy often brings home a piece of fruit in his briefcase. They give out fruit in the break room, so so the kids love to look and see if it is a lucky day with a fruity surprise in his bag. Since it was her birthday, Gracie was the lucky girl to check his bag. Not one, but two oranges were hers for the taking.
The girls found some special items to pass on to her for her big day. She couldn't have been happier.
She received some birthday money from Grandma and Grandpa and Grandma Great. We decided to go to the mall and let her ride on the carousel. When I mentioned that it was her birthday the attendant said, "well then she should be free." I offered to pay for Sierra and she smiled and said it was on the house. They had a great ride. As we were leaving the mall the girls wanted to go to the little candy machines that you stick a quarter in and twist the knob. I suggested we didn't want to waste our money on those, they turned the knob with no money put in, and out came a big handful of candy. We considered in a birthday miracle, and gobbled it up gratefully. I think I could have spent hundreds of dollars and not had a happier birthday girl. She is such a joy to have as a daughter. Her eyes are always twinkling with excitement over the simple pleasure of life. How blessed I am to spend everyday with her.
