McKay's Baptism

McKay was baptized on June 8th, 2008. It couldn't have been a more wonderful day for our family. I drove home with such a heart full of gratitude for the Spirit that was felt and the love shown to McKay. As we sat on the front row during the service I realized we were all wearing white. I seemed to get a glimpse of the eternal potential of our family, and how much joy there will be to be together forever.

Our hometeacher, Bro. Burtoft, andUncle Jon gave great talks and Brother Cotton played beautiful music while we waited for them to change. McKay and I played a duet of "Baptism" while Russ and the girls sang for a musical number. Something he'll always remember, is that he was immersed three times. First his toes came out of the water, then his knee. Russ was determined that the 3rd time would be the charm.

His confirmation was beautiful. Some things mentioned were: The Lord is pleased with the decision to take upon you the name of Christ. We bless you to have the companionship of the Holy Ghost to avoid pitfalls and make wise and righteous decisions. Draw power from the Holy Scriptures and the teachings of the prophets. They will help you find great joy in knowing the Savior. Kneel in prayer several times a day for the Lord's blessings. You will have great opportunities to serve and help others. Seek opportunities to mkae the world a better place, to lift up the hands that hang down and to strengthen the feeble knees. You will find joy in living the gospel and will develop a personal relationship with the Savior. We bless you to set a good example for your sisters. They watch the things you do. Bless you with courage to avoid temptation. Your mind will be quick. You will enjoy learning and the beauty of the world, science and nature. Prepare yourself to one day receive the priesthood and pass the sacrament. Will one day accept a call to preach the gospel. Will find choice and beautiful young lady to be sealed in the temple. Bless you with those things your young heart and mind need.

We felt so blessed to have many ward members, neighbors, and co-workers attend.

I couldn't have been more grateful for all the people that helped with all the details so I could focus on being with McKay. My good friend Charlene made beautiful invitations for it, Meghan made her famous cookies, (that I have since learned can not be replicated even if you do use the same recipe), London and Liz set up all the food and decorated for a little reception afterwards, and primary teachers helped him understand the gospel so he would be ready to receive this special ordinance. It is an amazing blessing to have such supportive friends and family.
