We just rolled in from a wonderful whirlwind weekend. Last Thursday we loaded up the mini-van and headed to Columbia, South Carolina. We got there just in time for a KFC picnic at the park with Kevin, Becca, Susanne, and Jon & Megan's family. The next day we hung out while all 9 siblings went to have a family portrait taken. That afternoon we went to Susanne's graduation where she received her MLIS degree. From there we had a birthday party to celebrate Lauren turning 6. Saturday we went to the Columbia temple to share with David as he went through the temple to prepare for his mission to Australia. We all went out to eat at a nice Chinese and then filled up our van with Aldi canned goods. Oops, McKay just walked in and read this. "What are you talking about Mom, we didn't have Chinese." The secret's out. The kids spent the day with a babysitter, and apparently had macaroni and cheese, rather than General Tsao chicken, his favorite. I don't think I'll ever hear the end of it. Maybe blogging isn't such a good idea after all.
We celebrated Mother's day with Mom Shurtz and then loaded up, in a fairly snug van loaded down with about 500 lbs of food storage. All went smoothly until there was a forest fire which closed off the the freeway, and sent us on a lengthy detour. I woke up about 1:00 am to hear Russ say to Jon "Why is this turning into a dirt road". Always a good sign that you are probably lost. We were very excited to be home, only to wake up and realize our large freezer in the garage had stopped working and tons of meat was still cold, but defrosted. So today I have had both crockpots, the stove, oven and grill all going non stop to try to salvage as much as possible. Welcome Home. The vacation is apparently over.
The camera fizzled this weekend, so until some kind soul e-mails us some photos, this is a pretty dry entry.
