Do it for the Tacos (or pancakes in this case)

Today McKay ran in the local "Turtle Trot". He participated in this 5K event last year, but proudly shaved off a good 6 minutes and rarely need a walk this time around. We read a book some time ago about sharks who had to swim so many laps before they could qualify to go to a special swim camp. When ever they felt they couldn't swim any more they would remember that at the swim camp they had all you can eat tacos. Therefore, they would encourage each other by saying "do it for the tacos". This has become a family mantra that we chant while we have to do something a little hard or challenging. Since they serve IHOP pancakes after the race, McKay and I kept saying, "just do it for the pancakes". He's got quite a competitive spirit, and whenever a friend of his would pass him, he would start sprinting to get ahead. As his pacer I felt a need to talk to him about listening to his body instead of just trying to beat his friend. He said mom, the only reason I happen to be running a little faster now is to get to the pancakes sooner.
This race brought a little personal satisfaction to me, because when I was at BYU, and not running at all, I overhead (not to get confused with easedropped on) a girl telling a friend she had just ran a 5K at 5 months pregnant. That absolutley blew me away at the time. Now that I run more I realize it's not that difficult to do, but today I thought, wow, I've become the girl in the cougar-eat line.

Go McKay! and go Jen! I also think that it makes a difference to be running a 5k 5 months pregnant with 4 other sweet children. Way to go guys!
