An adventure awaits

Last Monday we decided we were ready for an adventure. We armed ourselves with a full tank of gas, a picnic and our "Texas Daytrips" book. We spontaneously decided to visit the "birthplace of Texas" and see where the convention was held in March of 1836 and the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed. The Texans had decided they were ready to be a new republic and fight for independence from Mexico and its new dictator Santa Anna.

Their was also a fun museum that had lots of 1800 period activities. The kids enjoyed dressing up, building cabins, making "quilts" and pretending they were original Texans.

I'm sorry to admit that we did not choose this site because we are historical buffs, but rather because it was 15 minutes from the Blue Bell Icecream factory. They give wonderful tours, which include samples of icecream at the end - which is the real reason we chose this particular day trip.

We all said a little prayer of gratitude that Mom did not get too lost. She is quite navigationally challenged, and we know angels must have helped to get us on the right roads.

Any day trip centered around ice cream is my kind of day trip!

Call me next time. We love day trips and who can turn down Blue Bell?
